![]() MICHAEL is the actor most associated with the role of the Phantom having opened the Broadway,West End and Los Angeles productions. For his marvelously entrancing Phantom, he received the Olivier (1987) and Tony (1988) awards as best actor. He has had very successful dual careers in theater and film. He has starred in the classic movie musicals A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1966) with Zero Mostel, Buster Keaton and Phil Silvers, and as the charming hay and feed strore clerk, Cornelius Hackl, in Hello, Dolly! starring Barbra Streisand and Walter Matthau and directed by Gene Kelly. On stage, he starred in the title role of the John Barry musical Billy, Same Time, Next Year, Flowers for Algernon, and Barnum.With his triumphant success as the Phantom, Michael embarked on a successful recording career releasing more than 10 solo albums and received Grammy nominations for A Touch of Music in the Night and a duet with Barbra Streisand.
