MICHAEL is the actor most associated with the role of the Phantom having opened the Broadway,West End and Los Angeles productions. For his marvelously entrancing Phantom, he received the Olivier (1987) and Tony (1988) awards as best actor. He has had very successful dual careers in theater and film. He has starred in the classic movie musicals A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1966) with Zero Mostel, Buster Keaton and Phil Silvers, and as the charming hay and feed strore clerk, Cornelius Hackl, in Hello, Dolly! starring Barbra Streisand and Walter Matthau and directed by Gene Kelly.
