![]() Steve was the fourth actor to be cast by Harold Prince as the Phantom on Broadway. Prior to this, he originated the role of Raoul in the West End and Broadway casts of Phantom, and his velvety baritone can be heard on the multiplatinum record setting original cast album. Other Broadway credits include originating the role of Boris Lermontov in Jule Styne's, The Red Shoes. He starred in various European premieres including the Beast in Beauty and the Beast,Munkustrap in Cats, Evita, and Jesus Chris Superstar, Steve was honored with the 1998 IMAGE Award (Europe's equivalent of the Tony Award) as best actor for his role as Count von Krolock in Roman Polanski's, Tanz Der Vampire. Steve can be heard on countless recordings including the Cole Porter Centennial Gala Concert, Anastasia - The Musical, Living Water, Tanz der Vampire, and Aria 2 - New Horizon. A true Renaissance man, he was a concert level pianist, vocalist, actor, dancer, gourmand, painter, sculptor, composer and writer, and was fluent in multiple languages. Steve passed away in July 2001. |
